Acupuncture, herbal medicine and diet are integrated natural modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the Eastern discipline of Daoism, the human body has long been viewed as a small universe, as a microcosm.

One of the main ideas of Taoism is the belief in balancing forces, or yin and yang. These ideas represent matching pairs, such as light and dark, sky and earth which work together toward a universal whole.

Five in elements in the body:

Our body is a mirror of universe. In the physcial body, the face is yang, the feet is yin; Back of the body is yang, front of body is yin.

Nature has fire, wood , earth, water and metal. In our body, from Chinese medicine perspective, Heart and small intestine are the fire element; Liver and gall Bladder are the wood element; Spleen and Stomach are the earth element; Lung and large intestine are the metal element; Kidney and Urinary bladder are the water element.

Heart is engine of the body which belongs to the fire element. It is the emperor of the kingdom which called imperial fire. Lung in the upper sky catches the warm vapour from the heat emanated from the pericardium which protects the heart from over heating  and then mixes the cold air through breathing then generated fresh water. This fresh water rains down sipping through the earth into the ocean.  Fire element of small intestine from below then steams up the salt water in urinary bladder to pump into the blood stream again to the heart.

The five elements demonstrates how human body are the mirror of our environment and nature. .The inter dependance and inter governing, inter transferring relationships keep the body and nature in perfect balance. When one element is too strong or too weak, it will impact the other elements. When the body is not balance, dis- ease occurs In nature, when there is too much water in one area, there is a drought in the other part of the earth.

Chinese medicine including acupuncture, Herbal medicine, diet and tai chi movement are the integrated approach to bring body back to its natural balance.
