FAQs

Before you come

How long is an appointment? An hour is standard. A first visit may run a little longer because of the history.

What should I wear? Whatever you arrived in. For massage you will be given privacy to undress to your comfort level and you are covered with a towel throughout. For acupuncture, loose clothing that can be moved out of the way helps.

Do I need a referral? No. You can book directly.

What should I tell you beforehand? Pregnancy, blood thinners, a pacemaker, lymphoedema, diabetes affecting skin or circulation, recent surgery, any condition affecting sensation, and any skin condition in the area being treated. These change what is appropriate rather than ruling it out.

During

Does acupuncture hurt? The needles are much finer than the ones used for injections. Most people feel a dull heaviness rather than pain. Tell the practitioner if anything is sharp — it should be adjusted, not endured.

Can I ask for less pressure? Yes, at any point, and you do not need a reason. "Lighter" is a complete sentence.

Will I be left alone? For part of an acupuncture appointment, yes, with a way to call someone.

Afterwards

How will I feel? Often relaxed, occasionally tired, sometimes a little sore the next day after deeper work. Drink water and do not plan anything strenuous straight after a first appointment.

How many will I need? Nobody can tell you that before seeing you. You should get an honest estimate after the first appointment, and an honest conversation about stopping if it is not helping.

Money and cancellations

Prices? Ask reception for the current list. We would rather quote you than leave a number on a page to go out of date.

Private health fund? Depends on your fund, your level of cover and the practitioner's provider status. Check with your fund using the item you are booking — that is the only answer that is reliable.

Cancellations? Let us know as early as you can. A missed appointment is an hour nobody else could use, and a cancellation fee may apply for very late notice.

The one we cannot answer here

"Will this help my problem?" Not from a web page. Ring and describe it, and if the honest answer is that you need a doctor first, that is what you will hear.
