Quick-result moxibustion headlines are tempting when you feel tired. A safe session still depends on your skin, your sensation and a proper assessment.
When you are worn out or uncomfortable, a post claiming that moxibustion can shift something within a minute is hard to ignore. Short treatments are appealing, especially if you are fitting care around work or a quick massage. A catchy headline, though, cannot decide how long heat should be applied to your body or what you should expect from it.
Before any moxa is lit, ask what exactly is being suggested for you and what will be used to decide whether to continue. Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, uses moxibustion at the Lane Cove clinic and will consider the temperature, the area involved and how well you can feel heat in that spot.

A brief application still calls for careful assessment. On the other hand, a longer or hotter session does not necessarily offer anything extra, and it can raise the chance of skin irritation or a burn. Reduced sensation from conditions such as diabetes, recent skin treatments or very thin skin are all worth mentioning.
Choose a signal for telling Christine that the heat is too strong, and ask how to look after your skin for the rest of the day. Your breathing, especially if smoke bothers you, and the health of your skin both shape these choices.
The instructions you leave with should be specific to you. An online routine or a friend's description cannot tell you what your body needs, and it should not be stretched into a longer or more frequent version at home. If something you read online prompted your visit, bring it with you so it can be discussed openly rather than quietly tested on yourself.
If you feel tired for weeks on end, raise it with your GP as well, since lasting fatigue can have many causes that deserve a proper medical look.
