First Acupuncture Visit in Lane Cove: Safety You Can Ask About

7:01 pm 24 October 2026 0 Comments

A first acupuncture visit feels calmer when you know what to share, which hygiene questions to ask and that you can pause at any time.

Lying back on a treatment table for the first time is much easier when you already know what will happen and why. Many people who come in for hands-on care, whether that is massage, a skin-focused session or acupuncture, want the visit to feel calm rather than mysterious. That calm usually starts with information.

What to mention before any needle is used

Describe the concern that brought you in, then list your medicines, any chance of pregnancy, past fainting episodes and how you honestly feel about needles. None of these details automatically rules you out. They let the practitioner judge whether needling suits you today or whether another approach makes more sense.

Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, sees clients at the Lane Cove clinic and welcomes these conversations before anything begins.

Hygiene details worth checking

You are entitled to ask practical questions. How are hands cleaned between steps? Are the needles sterile and used once only? How are needles counted at the end so that none are left behind? Hearing clear answers can make it easier to relax into the session.

Consent is not a form signed once at reception. You can ask for a pause, a change of position or a full stop at any moment, and you can ask what the alternatives to acupuncture would be.

Shaping a plan around your own goals

It helps to separate the symptom from the result you are hoping for. Perhaps you would like to sit at your desk with less discomfort, understand a recurring problem more clearly, or learn when a GP review is the sensible next step. Each of these is a reasonable aim. Ask Christine how the plan will be checked over time and what would prompt a change of direction, including whether massage belongs in the same appointment.

If a combined visit appeals to you, mention it when you book so there is time to talk through safety first and then enjoy the hands-on part without feeling rushed.
